The physical structure and the service
infrastructure also had to be addressed. Factors such
as the architecture (a building opened in 1888) and
the lack of space for complementary services had rendered
it utterly obsolete for commercial activity. However,
the transformation involved in the remodelling of the
market had to be brought about in combination with
burgeoning technological advantages, with the design
of a building which is part of the city's artistic
heritage. Moreover, there was the need to palliate
a lack of basic elements for operators and users, including
the provision of elements such as parking, and others
which had not yet been mainstreamed into the market
network.
These were the premises underpinning the remodelling
of La Concepción Market, which was officially
reopened on May 16, 1998. A tradition of more than of
115 years of history, which make it so special, and which
was afforded the instruments it would need to become
a market centre in the future.
The total cost of remodelling La Concepción
Market amounted to 1,180 million pesetas,
plus the cost of building the new stalls. |
